General

Will cosplay be allowed?

Absolutely! One of the many things that makes communities great are those most enthusiastic about the games. However, keep in mind that the main intent of 1UpState will be Game Development and the business aspect of Gaming. But by all means, celebrate your fandom!

May I take pictures inside the venue?

Sure thing! While we are still establishing our guest and vendor lists, our overall stance is that pictures inside the venue will be allowed. Exceptions may apply by individual vendors or guests.

Can I bring pets to 1UpState?

Sorry, the venue does not allow pets. An exception is made for licensed service animals, of course.

What should I do if I lose something or find something that isn’t mine at 1UpState?

We get it. It happens. If you’ve lost a personal item or find something like a cell phone, wallet, money, keys etc., please come to the registration booth at the front entrance in the lobby.

What do I do if I am feeling sick, hurt, or unwell at 1UpState?

Please find any 1UpState staff member or Albany Capital Center staff member or volunteer and we will get you the help you need. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.

What are your COVID policies?

At this time 1UpState & The Albany Capital Center recommend, but do not require face coverings, nor do we require proof of vaccination. We encourage attendees to make choices that help keep everyone happy and healthy, including being vaccinated/boosted, wearing masks if you choose, and staying home if you are sick or have come into close contact with anyone who has symptoms.

What is 1UpState’s policy on harassment?

A gaming conference should be a fun, friendly, and welcoming place for every single human. 1UpState has absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for harassment of any kind: stalking, intimidation, offensive verbal comments, physical assault and/or battery, harassing, sustained disruption of panels, signings and other events, bathroom policing, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome physical attention. 1UpState has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment in relation to, but not limited to: race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, gender presentation, sexual orientation, age, body size, disability, appearance, religion, citizenship, and pregnancy.

1UpState staff will instruct security to take immediate action to warn and possibly remove any individual or group who has been deemed to be engaging in harassing behavior, including exhibitors, attendees, guests, staff & volunteers.

What should I do if my child, friends, family, or I get lost or separated?

Please contact a 1UpState or Albany Capital Center staff member and we will do our best to help you locate your missing party. Making a plan to meet in the lobby with your party in case anyone gets lost is a good idea.

Facilities

Is there off-street parking?

Yes, there will be a parking garage available to guests and attendees. While there is a parking garage specifically for the Albany Capital Center, attendees will also be able to use the other public visitor parking garages that are part of the Albany Capital Concourse and Plaza. However, a nominal fee may be charged by the venue for use of the parking garage. The 1UpState team will work with our partners at the Venue to minimize the fee as much as we are able to.

Will there be food or concessions?

Yes, there will be concessions available. The Albany Capital Center has an exclusive partnership with Mazzone Hospitality, so you know the food will be top notch!

Is 1UpState accessible?

1UpState is wheelchair accessible. There are elevators to travel between the parking garage and Capital Concourse to connect to the main entry. Please ask a 1UpState staff member or Albany Capital Center staff for directions to the nearest elevator. Unfortunately, at this time 1UpState does not provide interpreters for panels and other events.

Will there be WiFi at 1UpState?

Yes, there will! The Albany Capital Center will provide basic WiFi for guests and vendors, free of charge to the attendees.

Will there be security at the convention?

Yes! Attendee safety is our first priority. There will be trained, certified police security at 1UpState. If you see or experience anything that makes you uncomfortable, please find an 1UpState or Albany Capital Center staff member who can help you.

You have an application for “Exhibitor”, but not “Vendor”. Why is that?

This is mostly a matter of semantics, but here’s the deal: Since we are pushing 1UpState in the direction of showcasing talent as well as the sale of products, the term “Exhibitor” makes more sense since these people or organizations may be putting their games and creations on display for demonstrations, but not necessarily for sale. A “Vendor”, however, would imply the sales of goods and services. The term “Exhibitor” is simply more inclusive of whatever the person or organization intends to bring to the Expo!

How large are the Exhibitor spaces?

Booths are a 10′ x 10′ (about 3m x 3m) area for exhibitors to set up their stuff they want to sell, show off, etc. Each booth will have 1 8′ (2.4 meter) table and 2 chairs.

What is 1UpState’s policy on weapons? What about cosplay weapons?

In general, we will be abiding by the venue’s weapons policy.

Attendees, guests, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers are prohibited from bringing, buying, or selling anything that could maim, damage, or cause serious bodily harm. These items are absolutely forbidden at 1UpState:

  • Functional firearms (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns and pellet guns)
  • Realistic replica firearms (including reproduction, fake or toy guns that can be confused for functional firearms)
  • Functional projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons and water guns)
  • Sharpened metal-bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatches, knives, kunai, shuriken, swords, sword canes and switch blades)
  • Explosives (including firecrackers and fireworks)
  • Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray)
  • Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, clubs and nunchaku)
  • Hard prop weapons (including props made of metal, fiberglass and glass)
  • Instruments that cause excessive noise levels like vuvuzelas, grenade whistles and grenade horns
  • Whips
  • Aerosol mustard

Prop weapons will be allowed providing they are composed of foam, hollow/lightweight plastic, or cardboard only. Prop firearms are allowed only if they cannot be mistaken for real weapons. The barrel of all prop firearms must be covered with brightly-colored caps or tape around the entire circumference of the barrel. Prop bows will be allowed providing they cannot be fired and all arrows have soft tips.
